Conquering Kerrs Ridge: Mud Traps, Steep Ravines & Trail Shenanigans
There is nothing quite like a crisp September morning in New Brunswick to get the ATVs fired up. The early fall colors were just starting to pop, the morning air was hovering around 9°C, and the Oak Hill Crew was primed for a proper trek out toward Kerrs Ridge via the power and pipeline trails.
With The Boss, Miss My Phone, This Guy Knows Things, Boss Mini, and The Real Rookie on the throttles, we knew we were in for an eventful ride—though we didn’t expect just how much trail chaos was waiting for us.
“This is My Swamp!” — Channeling Shrek on the Trail
The tone for the day was set right off the bat when a fallen tree blocked our path, turning the trail into a full-on limbo contest. Naturally, clearing trail obstacles quickly led to full Shrek mode for the rest of the day.
When we hit the muddy flats, it was officially “my swamp.” Approaching Boss Rock? “That’s a nice boulder—I like that boulder.” And crossing the bridge? Pure Donkey looking down and trying not to panic.
Beaver Dams and Ravines: Miss My Phone Faces Her Nemesis
One of the biggest hurdles of the Kerrs Ridge run is tackling the steep ravines and flooded beaver dam sections. Miss My Phone made it clear she wasn’t thrilled about the drop-offs—rating the first obstacle as “82% scary.”
With the drone buzzing overhead to capture the action, she geared down into four-wheel-drive low and powered right through both ravines without hesitation. Facing down steep descents and deep water holes is never easy, but conquering them made for some of the best footage of the whole season.
Mud Holes, Boot Fills, and Log Jams
No off-road trip with the crew is complete without a few close calls and trailside recoveries:
- The Soggy Boot Award: This Guy Knows Things tried to pick a line around a tricky mud section, stepped off, and immediately flooded his boot with swamp water. Classic trail moment.
- The Sinkhole Surprise: The Real Rookie charged into what looked like a shallow splash zone, only to find the bike sinking fast into deep, soupy mud before clawing out.
- Tree vs. A-Arm: Later in the run, an entire log—not just a stick—got completely wedged inside an A-arm. We had to tip the quad trailside to pry the wood out, luckily escaping with zero mechanical damage.
- The Hidden Drop-Off: The Boss caught a hidden hole tucked deep in the bushes along a ridge that almost caused a tip-over, but steady throttle control saved the day.
Cruising the Highway Home
After hours of dodging rocks, pushing through mud, and conquering ravines, we finally popped out onto the trails running alongside the highway to cruise our way back to Oak Hill.
Between the near rollovers, constant laughs, and sheer volume of trail excitement, we ended up with way more footage than we could even fit into one video.
