The kayaks are finally back on the water for our first paddle of the season, and the Digdeguash River gave us the perfect relaxing start to summer here in New Brunswick. 🛶🌿
This wasn’t a fast-paced adventure filled with rapids or difficult sections. Instead, it turned into one of those easy-going family days that reminds you why getting outdoors matters so much. Calm water, good conversations, beautiful scenery, and plenty of laughs along the way.
A Great Beginner-Friendly Paddle
One of the best things about the Digdeguash River is how approachable it is for almost anyone looking to get into kayaking. The water was calm for most of the trip, making it a great paddle for beginners or families wanting a relaxing day outside without worrying about rough conditions.
The river offered a peaceful mix of open stretches, winding shoreline, and quiet little areas to explore.
A Little Rain, But Nothing Serious
Partway through the paddle, some darker clouds rolled overhead and we got hit with a quick sprinkle of rain. Thankfully, it only lasted a few minutes before clearing back up, and honestly, it added to the atmosphere more than anything else.
The dramatic skies made for some incredible scenery out on the water.
Side Quest: Beaver Dam Discovery 🦫
Of course, no Oak Hill Crew adventure is complete without wandering off the main route at least once.
We spotted a small stream branching off the river and decided to investigate. After paddling up through the narrow waterway, we came across a hidden beaver dam tucked back in the woods. It was a cool little surprise and one of those moments that makes exploring nature so much fun.
Real Rookie Starts Playing Bumper Boats 😂
The peaceful atmosphere lasted right up until Real Rookie decided relaxing was overrated and started turning kayaks into bumper boats.
Thankfully, nobody ended up swimming, but it definitely added some laughs to the trip and broke up the calm river drifting with a little chaos.
Overall Thoughts
This trip was exactly what we needed. No pressure, no difficult obstacles, just quality family time spent outdoors enjoying the simple side of adventure.
Sometimes the best days aren’t the wildest ones. They’re the days filled with conversations, relaxing scenery, unexpected little discoveries, and making memories together.
