There is nothing quite like the feeling of loading the machines and getting on and looking at a full day of New Brunswick Trails ahead of you. This past weekend, the Oak Hill Crew—including Miss My Phone and Real Rookie—set out for a run that reminded us why we love this sport: a mix of technical mud, high-speed trails, and some of the best scenery our local area has to offer.
The Mayfield Mud Run
We started the day heading toward Mayfield. The recent weather left the trails in prime condition—which is just a nice way of saying there was a lot of mud. We hit every hole we could find on the way down to get on the ATV Club Trail 3801. The machines were already caked before we even hit the main trail, but that’s exactly how we like it.
Big Improvements on Trail 3801
One of the biggest takeaways from this trip was the work the local ATV club has put into Trail 3801. For those who haven't been out this way in a while, you’re in for a treat. They have done some serious heavy lifting, clearing out many of the major rocks that used to make this section a bit of a bone-shaker. It’s significantly smoother now, allowing us to keep a better pace as we headed out into the country. It’s great to see our trail fees being put to such good use.
The "Green Tunnel": Drone Action on the 3801
One of the most exciting parts of the day was finding a section that was clear-cut about three years ago. Back then, it was just open ground, but today, those young trees have shot up to 10–14 feet high.
It created this incredible "green tunnel" effect for our drone follow-shots. Flying the drone between these rows of fast-growing trees while the ATVs zipped below made for some of the most cinematic footage we've ever shot. It’s amazing to see how much the landscape has changed in just a few seasons!
BBQ and Family at Oak Hill
No ride is complete without a stop for some fuel—both for the machines and the riders. We met up with The Boss and This Guy Knows Things at Oak Hill for a BBQ. There’s something about food cooked over a fire after a few hours on the trail that just tastes better.
After the break, we were joined by our nephew, Captain Bagel, for the return leg. We pushed past the iconic "Boss Rock" and headed toward Moores Mills. Having the whole crew together, from the veterans to the younger generation, is what Oak Hill Crew is all about.
Finishing Strong at Maxwell Crossing
To top off the day, we pulled into the sand pit near Maxwell Crossing. This was the highlight for the "speed seekers." Real Rookie and Captain Bagel took turns blasting through the pit, and thanks to that GoPro footage, we caught some epic slow-motion shots of the sand flying as they banked through the corners. It was the perfect high-energy end to a long day in the dirt.
