We Came for Ghosts... and Found a Sea Monster? | PEI Adventure

What do you do when the main reason for your trip gets cancelled the day before you're supposed to leave?

For us, the answer was simple: go anyway.

Our original plan was to travel to Prince Edward Island and take part in a paranormal investigation at the historic West Point Lighthouse. Everything was booked and we were excited to spend the evening exploring one of PEI's most recognizable landmarks after dark.

Unfortunately, the event was cancelled just one day before our departure.

Rather than cancelling the trip, we packed our bags, loaded up the vehicle, and made the journey across the Confederation Bridge to see what kind of adventure we could find.

Crossing into Prince Edward Island

The trip began with a drive across the Confederation Bridge, the longest bridge in Canada. Stretching nearly 13 kilometres across the Northumberland Strait, the bridge connects New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island and offers incredible views as you make your way onto the island.

Once across, we were welcomed by PEI's famous red soil, rolling farmland, and coastal scenery.

West Point Lighthouse

Even though the paranormal investigation had been cancelled, we still wanted to visit the West Point Lighthouse.

Located on the western shore of Prince Edward Island, the lighthouse is one of the most recognizable in Atlantic Canada. Standing along the coastline overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, it was easy to see why this location was chosen for ghost tours and paranormal events.

As the sun set and darkness moved in, the lighthouse created the perfect atmosphere to start our PEI adventure.

Exploring Charlottetown on the Harbour Hopper

The next day we climbed aboard the Harbour Hopper in Charlottetown for a unique tour of Prince Edward Island's capital city.

The Harbour Hopper travels both on land and water, offering visitors a chance to explore historic Charlottetown before splashing into the harbour for a completely different perspective of the city.

Along the way we heard local stories and legends, including a fascinating ghost story involving a harbour bell that reportedly rang despite no ship arriving in port. According to local lore, four women seen in a tower were later discovered to have been passengers aboard a vessel that had sunk.

Whether you believe the story or not, it certainly fit the theme of our ghost-hunting weekend.

Route 6 Haunted Motel

Still looking for a few scares, we headed to the Route 6 Haunted Motel in Cavendish.

The attraction combines dark hallways, themed rooms, creepy props, and unexpected surprises to create a fun haunted experience. While not part of our original paranormal investigation plans, it definitely helped keep the spooky side of the trip alive.

Walking Beneath PEI's Famous Red Cliffs

One of the highlights of the weekend was exploring the coastline beneath Prince Edward Island's famous red cliffs.

The dramatic sandstone formations, red beaches, and ocean views create some of the most recognizable scenery on the island. Walking along the shoreline gave us a completely different perspective of the cliffs than most visitors see from above.

It was also where we made our strangest discovery of the entire trip.

The Mystery Creature

While walking along the beach, we came across a large creature that had washed ashore.

Measuring nearly four feet in length, it immediately caught our attention. Time and the ocean had made it difficult to identify, and its unusual appearance sparked plenty of discussion among our group.

Was it a large fish? A shark? Something else entirely?

We're still not sure.

If you have any idea what it might have been, leave a comment on the video and let us know.
