What’s Going On With Trail 5801 in New Brunswick?
We had heard that the beavers were removed last year, so we expected this section of Trail 5801 in New Brunswick to be in better shape.
But once we got into it…
It was clear things have changed again.
The trail is built back up and holding a lot of water, and it’s deeper than it looks. This is one of those spots in New Brunswick ATV trails where conditions can flip fast depending on activity and water levels.
Trying to Make It Passable
We didn’t just turn around.
The crew spent about an hour working the area, poking holes to try and drain the water and lower the level. It helped a bit, but not enough to make it safe for most riders.
This is pretty common with spring ATVing in New Brunswick, especially in areas affected by beavers and water flow.
The Crossing Attempt
Only one machine made it across:
2026 Can-Am Outlander XMR 850
Even with that setup, it was deep and risky the entire way through.
On my first attempt, I turned back. After we spent time draining the area, I went back through, but it still wasn’t something you’d want to take lightly.
Our Recommendation for New Brunswick Riders
Right now, we do NOT recommend Trail 5801 for smaller ATVs.
If you’re out riding New Brunswick ATV trails, this is one section you should avoid unless you’re fully prepared for deep water conditions.
It may feel like there’s a hard bottom, but the depth and uneven sections make it unpredictable.
Final Thoughts on Trail 5801
Trail 5801 continues to be one of those New Brunswick ATV trails that changes year to year.
Based on what we saw, there’s a strong chance the beavers are active again, and the water is backing up because of it.
If you’re planning your next ATV ride in New Brunswick, it’s worth rerouting around this one for now or approaching with serious caution.
